: Where are people getting their HP figures from? I've seen : 240, 260, 280 and onwards. This for a car that in every : test has put down disappointing straight line performance : with a simple promise that somehow somewhere nissan is going : to magically find a bunc hfo hp.It's widely known that the car tested by the magazines was the mule car and only producing 240hp or less considering it wasn't setup like the production car will be. It's even stated in one of the mags that the suspension settings aren't set up correctly. Secondly, Nissan states that there will be 280+hp. I'll give 'em that... considering that those who've been able to see and report on the Z(cough cough Seedy cough cough) said that 300hp is achievable with an ECU upgrade. : Fact....NOBODY knows how much hp that car will have. Again, all Nissan is stating is 280+ .. go to website. : In practice, the HP it's getting out in the Maxima probably : isn't far from its peak. I wouldn't expect the peak : hp figures to budge much higher than 260 with the emissions : regulations it has to face. Sure it uses the same block but it's not the exact same engine. I believe it uses a totally different intake plenum for the Z. Not to mention a less restrictive exhaust. : Saying there's going to be turbo'd or supercharged versions : of the car is pure speculation by people who think they : heard someting from someone who thinks they know someone : that might work for Nissan. If there was a version of the : car that might do 0-60 nearly as fast as a 911 or Vette : you'd be hearing about it already. I'm not sure we'd know about that! That's speculation also. =) More speculation is that the GTR is going to be a TT version of the vq35 producing 400+hp. Who knows! Nissan could use the supercharged vq out of the Pathfinder. Again all speculation, like you said. : The C5 vette (even excluding hte Z06) will be the : performance leader on American shores for a long time, : the Z will not come close to its performance numbers, :performance to dollar ratio, or how it looks. Chevy - MSRP 41,800 @ 350hp & 360lbs-tq $119.42/hp & 116.11/lb-tq Nissan - MSRP 26,800 @ 280hp & 260lbs-tq $95.71/hp & 103.07/lb-tq Granted that's with no options on either cars. But performance to dollar the Z wins hands down. Start adding up the options and i think the Z will still be on top. The Z wasn't supposed to be a Corvette killer anyhow. : On the other hand, my TT runs with a C5 already and if I : bought some brakes and bigger wheels would do adequately : on a road course. I have no clue what exactly a C5 will run in the quarter with an equal driver, but mid to low 13s doesn't seem far fetched. Good time you have btw!! I never had a chance to take my Z out to the track. : Oh well....my TT and my M3(my future daily driver someday) : will both absolutely destroy the 350Z and that'll make : me smile. Good to know! But the M3 is also running 48,000 and not nearly in the same class... well, I shouldn't say that. We don't know yet... PURE speculation! =D : I'm sick of slow cars that try to pretend to be fast, thus : one reason I laughed like a schoolgirl when I completely : embarassed the RSX last night and the WRX a few weeks : before. So you think the new Z will be that way? Again, speculation. : Just like the S2000s that barely crack the 14 second mark, : the WRX that is suprisingly slower than the magazines want : you to believe, the RXS which is blah....the 350Z will : probably be a pitiful little car that gets bullied by : cars a decade older. Speculation... you own a Z, and yet you piss on it... which is sad! Be optimistic! We are finally seeing nissan pulling around and bring out some really good cars. But if no one shows interest then they'll never get on their feet, and never be able to bring out the "pure speculation" turbo'd or s/c'd 350Z. Nissan has hung up some lofty goals by stating that this will be the fastest Z(in what we don't know), AND by going back to their roots and bring out an affordable sports car.
